Douglas W. Swain, President & CEO - Since 1974, Mr. Swain has been active in the geophysical industry. From 1979, he was Party Manager of Western Geophysical's South American marine seismic crew, acting in this position in Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands Antilles and Gulf of Mexico. In 1982, he became the Area Supervisor of Operations for Petty-Ray Geophysical covering their geophysical activities for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Mr. Swain's field experience covers management of the marine operations including personnel, systems integration, operation and maintenance..
As President and CEO, Mr. Swain primarily manages the Marketing/Sales and the Engineering/Operations aspects of the company. Serving as Director of Business Development, he established a world wide network that sells and services new and reconditioned geophysical instrumentation, systems and equipment and which to date has outfitted several major survey ships. Mr. Swain was naturally drawn to forming the team of companies which support DWS International's MISS systems and continues to do research and to further develop these state-of-the-art integrated systems. He is an active member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and The Hydrographic Society.
DWS International Inc. (www.dwsii.com) originally formed in 1986 to provide sales of used, reconditioned marine geophysical systems and equipment. DWSII expanded operations to service customers worldwide and developed associate offices in England, Singapore and Brazil, networking through existing facilities in those areas of the world.
In 1989, DWSII incorporated in Texas, moving the corporate headquarters of this woman owned, certified disadvantaged small business enterprise to Corpus Christi, Texas. Moving to Corpus Christi enabled DWSII to better serve the worldwide marine survey industry through Houston, as well as to provide the basis to expand our capabilities in sales and service to the U.S. Government.
With over twenty years of field experience in managing projects for major marine geophysical survey companies and an equal amount of time with the operation of integrated systems, DWSII management expanded their marketing to include the integration of systems and equipment. Our research and development of the Marine Integrated Survey System (MISS™) has resulted in the teaming of some of the industry's leading manufacturers who are committed to DWSII, not only to supply equipment or systems, but to combine our experience and resources and to continue to further develop the MISS™ capabilities.
DWSII has a history of close cooperation with government and academic researchers in the area of high resolution marine geophysics. Through aggressive support of research programs at North Carolina State, Rice University, and the University of Mississippi, among others, DWSII has positioned itself on the forefront of high resolution technology development and transfer. The association with public sector research has also provided DWSII with a free flow of input from a large and diverse user base.
Company Experience
For over sixteen years, DWSII has been providing equipment and integrated systems either on a turn-key basis or by customer specification; as sole source or competitive firm fix priced procurements; or specifically designed systems on a cost plus fixed fee basis. The applications for these systems cover a wide variety of exploration, search and survey criteria which have been carried out on a variety of platforms from very small survey launches to large oceanographic survey vessels in all types of environmental conditions. DWSII technical personnel are fully experienced in the technical, logistical and operational aspects of land survey, hydrographic, seismic, side scan sonar and other types of ocean surveys.
